Sophie Traynor

Sophie Traynor spoke about her journey from leaving university and becoming a freelance photographer to now to launching a business. After leaving university in 2013, Traynor took images of animals and pregnancy images whilst working part-time in a bar. Her first client was a dress company her friend recommended her for. A year later, she did a food photo shoot despite having no previous experience in shooting food. These become long-term projects before branching out as a freelance photographer in 2016. When covid struck in 2020, she described how difficult getting work became and only began working again once the lockdown restrictions began to lift. She gained a lot of her work through connections via friends and business partners which led to her joint business in 2023. Her list of ‘key things’ she defined as important to maintain is, nurturing skills, noticing mistakes, keeping in contact with connections, a wide range of marketing and promotion and well as knowing how to adapt to changing times.
